I had no idea how much I have missed home. It's easy to get so busy that you forget about the oasis that is this area (at least for me...)

I've been so busy at school that I haven't written a song since I've been there. All that pinned up energy kind of busted out of me over the weekend and I wrote this little guy:

Ivy league scholars and drunken fools are quick to hand out advice/
And both claim that theirs is the only path that diverts from an average life/
But this ballroom's filled with looks that kill and stares that will search your soul/
The undying glares of those with less care for what you've done than what you know/

So what are you to do when faith is all that's left,
when love has all run dry and hope has been already spent
Can you retrieve the wins that you've lost
and all the while
Still afford to smile?

Hollywood portrays all scenes with this simple paraphrase/
They say, "love holds on long past the borders of your darkest days"/
But I propose a different kind of slogan than they do/
It says, "why hold tight to something that all others need from you?/

And what are they to do when faith is all that's left,
when love has all run dry and their hope has been already spent
Can they retrieve the wins that they've lost

Turn your back on sunlit streets and your feet toward darkened roads/
And brace yourself because what you see is where we're all bound to go/
You see, nowadays no one trusts a smile unless it's backed with proof/
So remind yourself that fairytales are rarely based on historical proof/

I like it. It's a lot better with a tune, I promise.

Anyway, I really missed my family somethin farce (that's how they say it here in the south... I think). It's been great seeing them and actually spending time with them.

I want to update everyone on school, but I don't go back until tomorrow, so i don't want to have to think of it until I do. hahaha All you need to know is that I love it there, and I've been doing well. Spring semester's going to be the death of me, I'm not Sam Nolen, after all. :)

I've discovered some really good bands recently, look them up: Margot and the Nuclear So and So's (what a great band name!) and The Cold War Kids (another great band name)

On finals and pancakes

So finals have come and gone. It's been a rough week, but a lot of fun too. No classes is always nice, even if you're studying for finals in place of it.

I finished my last final today at 5:00 and I was ecstatic!!! It was a great feeling.

Last night the RA's fixed pancakes, eggs and ham for everyone in the dorm at midnight. It was so great. That's the kind of food necessary for studying.

Since I have nothing to do tomorrow besides packing and work, My good friends (more like brothers) Nick and Josh and I went out and lay down in the Alumni Fields to watch the meteor shower. We had some good discussions on faith which is the turn that most of our conversations take. I saw the most AMAZING shooting star I have ever seen in my LIFE tonight. And I've seen a lot, believe me. This one burned so brightly that you could see it emmiting a bluish color and it left a long trail behind it. It was incredible.

Anyway I will be coming home on Friday afternoon! I think it will realy hit me then that I survived the first semester.

    They say on CNN that the average college student gains 1.1 pounds during thanksgiving break. I'm pretty sure that I brought that average up. I ate sooo much on Thursday. It's just like that Everybodyfields song "It's so good to be home". I'm so thankful to be here, the break came at the perfect time, right before that breaking point.

    School is so great, I've met a lot of amazing people. I am incredibly thankful for my friends there, they have helped me a lot in my Christian walk.

    In short... life is good. I'm keeping up with everything, but keeping in touch with everyone is a little different. I apologize to everyone that I haven't talked to in awhile. Don't think that I've forgotten you, college is just pretty demanding sometimes. Well... okay ALL of the time. We'll talk soon though, I promise.

I hope life is going well for you all!

Get tickets if you can, he is amazing! One of my favorite artisits of all time!!!

I can't be there to hear him, so someone I know better go and tell me how it was!!!!

Hello all! Sorry I haven't kept this updated. Berea is great so far, my professors are hard but good. I'm still getting use to having such a full schedule (at Berea you are required to work at your on-campus job a minimum of 10 hours a week.). I auditioned for the concert choir and got in, we sound ah-mazing. There are sooo many ridiculously cool people here.

Did you know that Berea is only one of four schools in the nation where the laundry is free.

Yeah, that's nice.

Okay I've got to go to church, but I'll try and update again soon! I hope you all are doing okay.

So, I'm still alive, our computer however is on the brink so it's being repaired as we speak... er type.

I'm off to Berea on Friday, wish me luck, I'm a little nervous.

Jared and I are playing at acoustic tomorrow (thursday) night. We haven't really practiced so it's mainly for our own enjoyment. Feel free to come but don't expect a great set. We'll be doing a lot of covers, some Bright Eyes, Derek Webb, Decemberists, maybe some Blues Traveler.

I'm playing at Music On The Square on Friday the 11th and I'm uber excited. I'm opening for a band called Moccasin Gap, I think.
It's completely free and it's in front of the courthouse in Jonesborough at 7:00.
If you're able to come, you might want to bring a lawn chair or some kind of somethin somethin to sit in.
Anyway, I'm playing with a friend of mine by the name of Kris Carlson (aka the music genius) and it should be a really good show. It will probably be my last one here before I head off to Kentucky for college, so come if you can! And bring a whole bunch o' people!

In case of rain (which is a good possibility) it will most likely be cancelled.

Just in case you don't know, this is the guy you should root for. He's in 15th right now and still has a chance at the podium. Anytime you see him make a break these are the steps you should follow:

1. Jump up out/off of your chair/ couch with much vigour.
2. Stand approximately 5.3 inches from the television.
3. Yell, "GO LEVI, GO!!!!" with as much volume as you can muster.

So our family definitely did some cheese racing while at the reunion. I won. This could be the greatest game ever invented. Or at least the greatest game ever invented that involves pre-wrapped cheese and a barbecue grill...
